Featuring twenty-five written works layered onto an abstracted severed swan’s neck, this project explores symbols and metaphors apparent in 18th century literature reflected in modern language, specifically the use of birds representing femininity.

Printed on thermal receipt paper, a booklet archives these works while inherently exploring the transactional nature of relationships and cyclical decay in a modern materiality. As audiences take a poem from the swan’s neck and find its full context in the catalog book, they are encouraged to reflect on their contribution to these rhythms.
